A Benefit For Billy Brimblecom
About Billy:
Billy was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma in February of last year. He has endured a year of chemotherapy and in August 2005 doctors were forced to amputate Billy's left leg above the knee. While it will be at least 5 years until he is considered officially cancer-free, his first set of tests after the operation were negative and showed no signs of cancer. He continued with treatments, and now with a great deal of love, support and faith, Billys long-term prognosis is extremely good.

Billy is a musician and an avid drummer. He was selected "Best Drummer in Kansas City" by The Pitch in 2005. He has recently been touring across the United States with his band Blackpool Lights, and a CD is in the works. At 29 years old and still very active, Billy is in need of a prosthetic leg.

Billy's current leg is a temporary prosthesis. We're raising money to help purchase the final prosthesis. This leg is called a "C-Leg" and it has a top of the line computer processor knee, which will allow him to walk down steps leg over leg, walk up and down inclines, and walk on uneven ground (gravel, grass, etc). It will also allow Billy to be more stable and able to carry heavy things like drum equipment and turntables...something he cannot do currently.

The pricetag for all of this is in the neighborhood of $60,000 and his insurance policy is only paying for about half of that. This means Billy and his family have to come up with over $30,000. It is unfortunate that his insurance company will not cover the cost. The C-Leg is the prosthesis that all military personnel are provided with when returning from Iraq. It is a necessary item for him to live a "normal" life.
